So there is this key on my laptop f4 with an x in a box.
when I press it on the blank desktop I found something, interesting.

Not on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have an F4 key, but it has nothing to do with shutdown and has no "X in a box" on it. Alt+F4 brings up something to do with using two monitors.

If your function keys are assigned to something else then press the Fn key with them (you can always switch this behavior).

If you are really having problems shutting down you can also right click on the windows icon to shutdown or select "shutdown" from the metro screen or even just press the off button. It isn't terribly complicated.

On my 8.1 Alt+F4 is the only way to shut down as I run 8.1 in a VM and connect thought remote desktop. Other options only give me log-out. The power button still works though.

I use an shutdown icon created on my desktop . if you want to too,just right click on the desktop choose shortcut ,and copy this in to the first box , shutdown.exe /s /t 0 , then In the next box type, shutdown ,click ok .then right the new icon and go to change icon ,and in the list of icons I find a big red X and use that .
not sure if it will in the VM though ,cant hurt to try

I do that too. You can also pin it to the Start Screen. :thumb:

yeah ,but I leave it on the desktop because I hit at the wrong time to many times ,when I had it on the taskbar

HA! Had the same prob so I pinned 'Slide to Shutdown' to the taskbar! ;)

Is there a touchpad gesture for pulling it down without maneuvering the pointer to the pulldown?

Edit: Found a way: Press spacebar to complete shutdown

Yeah, that is pretty neat, it would stop the accidental clicked the wrong tile shutdown. I have a Logitech T650 hooked up to my desktop. I've been playing with it now for a couple of days. It has 1 finger, 2 finger, 3 finger, and 4 finger gestures. lol, about the only thing it can't do is shut the PC down directly.
