Solved How to make laptop automatically adjust screen resolution?

This is probably a silly question but I have just got a new laptop. While playing games on it, I was frustrated by the black borders of the screen on both sides. I was able to make the computer automatically adjust the resolution to the game that I'm playing so that the black space was filled. But today it has stopped doing that.

I've forgotten how to put it back and I've looked for how to turn this option on again but I can't figure it out.

Can anyone tell me how?

I do believe what you have to do is go into the game settings and set the resolution to match what your screen supports.

I do believe what you have to do is go into the game settings and set the resolution to match what your screen supports.

I tried that initially. The game is about 8 years old and the laptop is new so the game has black corners no matter what resolution I give it. Also, before, the screen automatically adjusted for several games. Now they all have black corners on the sides.

There is a function that will allow me to set up the screen to fit whatever is on it but I can't find it. :/

Set the windows display settings to the game resolution and turn off scaling (i.e. set the scale to 100%). That should fix it.

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. I'm late to get to bed for work as it is. Damn time difference.

It's a Medion Quad Core Laptop with 8GB RAM & 1TB HDD (E6239QUAD) if that makes any difference.
