Reading threads like this make me think I really am in the minority. I really like Windows 8.1
You are not in the minority. I like 8.1 too - so we are already two.

I am loving 8.1 here as well. No issues at all with it...

Well, today, after a week with W8.1, I discovered all the gestures possible with a precision touchpad that W8.1 supports and it makes everything so much more intuitive and relaxed moving around and selecting things. I'll never pine for W7 now, as much as I liked it.

My Windows 8.1 Pro flies, must be your Dell install. As suggested if the Classic Shell will help, by all means add it.

Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

But once you know how to get around 8.1, you don`t even need that

Wireless connection drops, connect it with a cable, wireless sucks.

    IE crashes, install Chrome.

I think Classic Shell is an unnecessary detour. Why remain in the past. With a right click on the start flag you get most facilities you need.

My mind is still open how my W8.1 will finally operate and look but I use Classic Shell because when I was in Start and selected a program it put me in the desktop, so I thought "What's the point of me being in Metro if I'm put in the desktop?". It looked a waste of a couple of clicks to go back to Metro Start so I made my base in the desktop. I don't use any Metro apps really, only programs. I'm looking for the shortest, most uninterrupted paths to achieve my objectives; efficiency. I'm not saying I've found it but that's the current state of my knowledge.

I like 8.1 and I like Classic Shell. The "Start Menu" in 8.1 and 10 is still not really the start menu I like. Maybe I am the minority.

I'm with you, Classic Shell made my introduction a lot more bearable.

You have to be adventurous. When I was young, we used to be more daring.
