Hi, I have a hp pro book 4520s that I updated from windows 8 to 8.1 from the Windows store, after updating it and installing all the drivers, I started having problems where the laptop freezes after I input my password or pin, the cursor doesn't move and the keyboard is non responsive. I usually have to power down using the power button by holding it down.

I have tried system restore but it tells me that system restore has failed because an anti virus is preventing it.

Does anyone know of a way how I can fix this issue.

Which AV ? Most have option to disable protection for some time, enough to do system restore.

defender is not the cause of the error - or at least it has never ever been an issue before..

It appears it may be something else, either you have other AV software or a virus preventing the restore

Checked but McAfee is not installed. Is there a way to solve this issue completely cause I can only access my laptop through safe mode. The restore point is at the time I installed 8.1 meaning I will lose all my data for the last month, if there is any way to solve this please advise.

Selecting a restore point will not cause data loss, go ahead.

You may also boot in Safe Mode, open an elevated command prompt, type sfc/scannow and hit Enter
