so i got this new laptop for xmas...i had an older PC that was/is running vista. i decided to set up a network to transfer some files over to the new laptop. when setting up win 8.1 and the laptop i used the same computer name as the old one...oops. no big deal, right...WRONG!!! i renamed the laptop so that the other members of the household wouldn't get confused, plus its nice that every computer is identified differently (lol) well after i renamed it all hell went loose. it created a new user account and deleted the admin account. i cannot reset the laptop to an out of the box state. when i use a restore point, the user accounts are still there. the system is so unstable now that when i reboot sometimes it just loops. every 3rd try i can get to my desktop. if i were to heed the reviews of everyone saying what a piece of sh#t windows 8/8.1 was...i shoulda just went to win7 or just waited for win 10 to come out. its just my opinion. IT SUCKS, i don't like it at all. now i have to buy recovery usb for a brand new laptop that's a week old. THANKS BILL i expect my thank you card in the mail for contributing to your wealth. *******. i dont think i need any help or advice as im sure its done. unless anyone wants to help contribute to the $40 fund for the recovery usb from toshiba. lol

If this is a OEM computer - you don't need to by recovery disks..

Right Charm -> settings -> Change PC Settings -> Update and Recovery -> Recovery -> remove everything and reinstall windows

Well yes you could have just downloaded an ISO from Microsoft and clean installed window 8.1 updated for free. Then to solve your aggravation with the Metro interface download ClassicShell configure to boot straight to desktop and you will have pretty much the same GUI you have with Vista or Win 7 or XP your choice. Dump the MS metro crap altogether turn off one drive. set up you local Admin Account. you will have Vista on Steroids. most likely the MS WIN 8.1 ISO will have working drivers for your hard ware to run however you should have no problems downloading the latest hardware drivers approved for you notebook from the manufactures support web page. Sometimes a little pre planning goes a long ways. Now that you have found this support forum you should check out the Tutorials they cover just about any issue you might encounter. And some of us are here to help with individual problems that might arise. Your Manufacture thanks you for the extra $40. Most likely in your original set up there were instructions to create your recovery disk set or USB drive.

No, yes, somewhat..

If you get back into PC we'll work through it..

Otherwise well use the media to boot the PC and then use the repair options

If you boot the media and just follow the instructions - you will be reinstalling windows..

another dumb question...whats the difference between installing windows8.1 this way versus getting the recovery drive from toshiba? no drivers? no network card? factory software such as the pre-loaded nortons antivirus? or will this just simply restore windows, nothing more?
