Solved Explorer address bar drop-down arrow

Hello,

I'm slowly graduating from XP to a new computer using windows 8.1

When using windows file explorer on XP, I often use the drop down arrow in the address bar which then gives a choice of all drives and network places. I just find this the quickest way to navigate, copy files etc.

On the windows8.1 machine these options don't appear. (I've attached a screen shot)

I'm certain there is a very simple way to remedy this but I haven't found it.

Hello wooli, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You can click on the arrow (bread crumb) just to the left of This PC in the address bar to see the drives like below instead.

I knew it would be simple. I've just got a lot to learn.

What is the right drop down button used for?

It's for previous locations opened in File Explorer. It helps to make it easier to go back to a recently opened location.
