isn't it wonderful how the new windows
complicates things that used to be so simple?

installed 7zip today, found it wouldn't open anything
set associations in the program, windows won't accept it

opened control panel set associations and of course
the archives i was looking for aren't there
with no option to add new ones

funny zoo is listed there and tar and sit and lzh and hqx and gz and arj and arc
but no zip rar or 7z which i need the most...

normally i'd right click and use open with
to select the program but it isn't there...

i can use the bold open with at the top of the menu
and it'll open it but it won't save it as the default

this is taking a long time to set up
anyone know an easy way to do this?

If you right click on a .zip file and select Open with then scroll to the bottom there should be a Look for another app on this PC selection. Chose that and browse to C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe and select it. That should set it as the default handler for .zip files.

thanks, when i tried it the first time it didn't work
the second time, just now 7z was there
and it did it right away...

i use peazip for zip files (it's great, it's free,
it opens almost anything...)
hmm... maybe i'll use just that...
it does batch converting/extracting too

thanks... you encouraged me to try it again...
