How to open file by selecting and pressing ENTER

Hello everyone

I recently installed Windows 8 on a Toshiba Satellite computer. I noticed that I can no longer open files on the Desktop by selecting the file and then pressing ENTER. When I press ENTER in Windows 8, I get a "save file" dialog instead. When I double-click the file, it opens in its associated viewer, however. For example, if I select four DOC files and press ENTER, then in Windows 7 it would have opened MS Word and opened all four documents in it, but in Windows 8 I get a "save file" dialog instead, and it doesn't open MS Word at all.

What do you suppose could be the problem?

Works correctly for me with 8.1. What shows when you right click on a .doc or .docx file and select Open with?

On mine I see:

That might be caused by the different file associations, you may check it with the right click as Ztruker suggested. Choose only the Doc t oopen with Office word and see if this will make any difference.
