    windows folder view, templates

i was in the video folder and set it up the way i wanted to
columns and everything and wanted to apply it to all subfolders in the video folder
    clicked on view/options/folder options
clicked apply to folders and it applied it to everything...
but it said of this type...

reset folders did nothing except reset the video folder
    resetting the default did nothing
cause it made it the default for everything...

how can i get the general and picture templates etc back to where they were?
    yes the video folder's ok...

    never done this before
i always did them one at a time
but i thought this'd be easier...

thanks for any help you can give...

    Hello Hannelius,

If you like, you could use the tutorial below to reset all folder views back to default. Afterwards set you Videos folder back to how you like.

    ok... i see...
you need to be in a folder of each type
and use reset folders in each one... or so i thought...

i went in the documents folder and reset it there
it reset everything to the general view
    all the libraries and everything
    which is fine...

i can set the videos folder back the way it was
but i have a hundred folders under pictures

how can i set the pictures folder back to use large icons
    without affecting anything else?

    can i?

I would say click on the folder & select Large Icons in View.
    I could be wrong.
    You could test it.

I mean each folder in Pictures.

You can use the method in the tutorial below to set and apply a view to all folders that use a "pictures" template.

That means that you had every folder set to have the "Videos" folder template, and is why it was applied to all of them.

Did you already reset all folder templates back to default, then try this?

if every folder was set to use the video template,
    i didn't do it...

wait... if every folder was set to use the video template
it would have been using it and it wasn't
every folder was using the template it should have been
    pictures using the pictures template
video for videos, general for everything else
(i guess the documents use the same as general...)

it was only when i clicked apply to folders
when in the videos folder (the standard one)
that it applied the video template to everything

i used the two batch files
    Restore_Default_Folder_Templates
    which didn't do anything
    so i tried
    All_Folders_Use_General_Items_Folder_Template
    which didn't do anything either...

it was only when i went to the documents folder
    and chose reset folders there
that i got the general template back,
    but for everything...

i'd like the pictures template back
(for the pictures folder of course)
but if this is too complicated
i might just do what i was doing
and set the folder views one at a time
cause windows is remembering the settings like it should
    no problem with that...

You could manually change the template for the pictures folder to "Pictures", then set it's view how you like and "Apply to Folder" to apply to all folders that use the "Pictures" templates.
