using touch screen monitor in 7 you can swipe up from outside of bottom edge and unhide your auto hidden Taskbar.
using touch screen monitor in 8 you can swipe up from outside, poke, prod and pray... and once in awhile you might get lucky and get the taskbar to rise.

At first I thought it was my new monitor, that I bought because my previous one was 'not 8 certified and would work, but not as good as one that is certified with windows 8' according to 7 to 8 compatibility check. Then I booted back into my 7 disc and lo and behold, swiping up works just fine.

Way to go MS, keep improving things each iteration like this and we'll be back to slate and chisel... or punch cards.

yes, I am trying to rile up 8 lovers/users. I mean, come on really, I can't use my touchscreen to pop up taskbar??? please say it isn't so. I am hoping to be soundly chastised with a SOLUTION. Is this MS's way to discourage using the desktop??

really? no response or solution????? I am using 8.1 now and just bought new HP 2in1... when in tablet mode and on the desktop, I STILL CANNOT reliably get the auto hidden taskbar to pop up. The crazy thing is that Windows 7 works perfectly with a swipe up from bottom. I really cannot be the only one that finds this to be a problem, can I?

off topic much?
8 is actually fairly stable for me now, but I do use Start8 to make it interface like 7

I have Win 8.1 and like it a lot. But a touch screen? No way. I don't even have (or want) a smart phone. My old faithful flips open for the once or twice a month I use it, then folds shut again for easy storage. It was free, and service is $7 a month with no contract. What could be better than that??
