After running for 4hours, and rebooted, the notification icons on taskbar is still greyed out and I can't configure anything
any other idea? I tried also the local group policy but can't figure out anything too... please help. thanks!
Go to IT Samples and download Notification Area Cleaner, right click>properties>compatibility> windows 8 then run it. With windows 8 and above you may have to run it twice in this case. It's actually made for 7, but I've run it a couple of times in 8.1.
Edit: to really nuke the system tray run as admin then reboot.
Hi Cliff S, i tried the cleaner to clean up the registry and it didn't help. i've also clicked "restore default icon behaviors" and there's nothing happened, obviously, it is not helping too.
Hi Brink, i tried both option 1 to manually "disabled" the "Remove the.." items of local group policy and rebooted with no effect. then i go to option 2 to download all .reg to enable the registry and rebooted with no luck
seems like i have already tried all the suggestions and none of them is helping, i will go and restore my win8.1 to original factory setting... anyone more suggestion before i go into this step?

Brink, resetting local group policy to default is not helping. I noticed that my Notification Icons Area is empty while my system icons is still greyed out except the Clock.
