Hello Wongckeong, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Enabling the grayed out options using the tutorial below should help.

This batch file is my "cure-all" option.

    dism.bat

    It MIGHT help.

    Download it.
Right click it & click Properties & Unblock it.
Right click it & choose "Run as administrator".

You can leave it run in the background.
It takes 2 hours or so to finish.

    Then reboot.

    Post back results.{Whether it helped or not.}

    It will fix stuff.
Even if it doesn't help with your specific problem.

Maybe a dumb question: Have you tried "restore default icon behaviors"?

Go to IT Samples and download Notification Area Cleaner, right click>properties>compatibility> windows 8 then run it. With windows 8 and above you may have to run it twice in this case. It's actually made for 7, but I've run it a couple of times in 8.1.

Edit: to really nuke the system tray run as admin then reboot.

Hi Cliff S, i tried the cleaner to clean up the registry and it didn't help. i've also clicked "restore default icon behaviors" and there's nothing happened, obviously, it is not helping too.

Hi Brink, i tried both option 1 to manually "disabled" the "Remove the.." items of local group policy and rebooted with no effect. then i go to option 2 to download all .reg to enable the registry and rebooted with no luck

seems like i have already tried all the suggestions and none of them is helping, i will go and restore my win8.1 to original factory setting... anyone more suggestion before i go into this step?

    thanks again!
