Is "D" drive a USB drive ?

A drive partition on the computer like the "C" drive ?

Notepad usually creates .txt files which then can be saved to a location.

Right click on the D drive, then select properties, on the security tab, click on your current user account, then check if you have the right permissions configured in the lower box.

If you have messed up with the permissions, using the following method:
Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder Problems automatically
If the above won't work,
enable the built-in Admin account(See here http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...rator-account-enable-disable-windows-8-a.html) and perform a permission reset, take ownership of D drive, then open CMD and run the following command:

CD /D D: , press enter;

icacls * /T /Q /C /RESET , press enter (reference: Icacls)
