    Official Windows 8 Wish List

For the love of all things holy please sticky this so it doesn't get lost and someone creates a new one.

This thread is for use as a central repository of everything we wish is fixed or added to Windows 8.

    I'll start:

    1. Pure Desktop Mode. People have been wishing for a way to login directly to desktop with a Windows 7-style start menu. I'm pretty sure if Microsoft ever does this it will only be an option in 8 Pro or 8 Enterprise.

    2. An improved method of using multiple displays. Having an application quit or something because that window lost focus doesn't cut it for us.

    3. Have a Metro-style "Notifications Tray". it could be a subsection of the Charms menu, which would allow you to access currently running background applications (Like Skype or something)

    4. Metro system applications. I'd like to me able to use Metro Snap in order to place the calculator beside whatever I'm working on, and have a Metro-style task manager where the Start tile shows usful information (like processor activity, RAM and HDD usage, etc)

    DEFINITELY MUST HAVE ...........

A "CLICK AND STICK" solution for the classic desktop, another words I want to during the initial set up of the OS to be able to select "classic desktop" as the default boot setting, so that EVERYTIME I
start the PC up it only comes up with the classic desktop, nothing else.

If Win 8 does NOT have this CRITICAL option, and the OS will only boot up to METRO

I WILL NOT be purchasing Windows 8. Period.

My next OS will be Ubuntu or Linux. I can promise MS that millions of other users will be opting for the same.

I agree with a pure desktop mode. I'm not ready to turn my desktop PC into a tablet.
Good chance I won't be standing in line for Win8 either.

I only have one wish, and that is that people would stop complaining about the start menu and booting onto the desktop. Okay two wishes. It's getting a bit tiring.

Assuming Metro is here to stay for Windows 8, I wish for a dedicated sandbox session for all Metro Apps - that does not either require UAC to be on or a logon to a Windows Live address. A specific logon could be requested by the App if needed and either stored as a cookie or be input each time the App starts, but most Apps will not need a logon. Until then, all Apps remain unpinned from my Start screen.

I just wish, whatever Windows 8 turn out to be, they include a comprehensive user guide. So that my friends will call me up less frequently for assistance. Have a lot of other works to do here.

The Charms Bar needs to be more than what it is. On the Desktop, it's awkward to have it there. It could take inspiration for the early Windows Longhorn builds and incorporate the system tray icons into the System Bar. And make elements of the metro UI less..large. It's weird to have a huge speaker icon when I can just click on a smaller one. Why do I have two speaker control buttons speaking of such?

I want to see more dynamic, 3D metro and Desktop animations. The Windows Phone does this fantastically.

Aero needs to be either scrapped or combined with metro design in Windows Explorer. It's getting weird to have the two together. Make Windows 8 a genuine change.

This website itself is that, mostly because of Brink's tutorials, but others should get credit too. You couldn't purchase a manual as helpful as all the information contained here, even if you wanted to.

Sometimes with the things he finds, I think there must be an insider at Microsoft feeding him information: "Psssst...make a tutorial on this!" .... haha

Lots of folks are probably working on guide books as we wait for the final release. Here is one site with some good information and some progress on his Windows 8 book.
