Clock Keeps Going out of Sync

    Hi All,

Hoping people might have ideas on how I can resolve this issue?

Every day my PC loses sync with the time and day, it tends to set the date a few days back and the clock at seemingly a completely random time.

Everytime it happens I go to resync it, some services work and some don't. But within a few hours its completely wrong again.

I have checked for Malware and found none (MalwareBytes, Spybot, Defender).

Only thing I can think is the CMOS battery, but I only rebuilt the PC with a new MOBO and battery last year (November 2013) and they normally last many years.

Do you have any ideas on how I can resolve this?

    Thanks! Tom

You might verify that you have correctly set the Region and Time Zone in the Control Panel and that you are synced to the Internet Time.

You may also have a bad CMOS battery even though it is relativity new.

The only reasons why this would happen to my knowledge is because of either:
    1. CMOS Battery
    2. Time Zone
    3. Malware

You said you checked your battery and malware. Check out your time zone and see if it is set on the right zone. Even try to use a different server.

This is a different issue with Linux and you can change in Linux as follows:

Ubuntu is set to use UTC time, open a terminal,

    sudo <favorite editor> /etc/default/rcS

change the line UTC=yes to UTC=no

Then the time will be in sync.

If your new motherboard came with the CMOS battery already installed, I'd just go ahead and change it.
You really have no way of knowing how old that battery was when it was installed on that board.
Also, make doubly sure that the battery shorting jumper in NOT set to the Shorted position. I've seen that on new motherboards.

Most users don't have a good Digital Volt Meter, with which to check a battery, but if you do, and your battery is not up to 3.0 or more volts, change it. It's already going bad.

Every PC that I work on, in my shop, gets a new battery. That way I know the PC won't be coming back in, with a battery failure problem any time soon.

    Cheers mate and Happy Holidays!

I keep getting Clock Watchdog Timeout and it is pretty annoying because the only way to get rid of that pesky blue screen is to turn the power strip off and then my clock, printer, TV, lamp and everything goes off. Is there a problem with my CPU or drivers??:sleepy:

Anyone know how to put a clock on the start screen? Either as a metro tile of a part of the wallpaper. Seems strange to have to go to the desktop or lock the computer to see what time it is!
