I was wondering on what support Windows 8 would have when Windows 10 is released and if I wanted to upgrade, it would erase my recovery partition from HP, wouldn't it?

1) Windows gets 10 years of support from date of release - 5 years of "mainstream" support (bugfixes and security updates), and 5 years of "extended" support (just security updates).

2) Most likely, yes - you'd want to make a backup of the recovery media using the recovery tools in the OS before replacing a stock OS on an OEM machine.

An aside to #1, Windows 8.0 support actually ends in January of 2016 - you have to upgrade to Windows 8.1 by the end of January of 2016 to continue to receive security updates and support for Windows 8.x. The product line itself is supported until 2023, however (10 years from release).
