Hi,

I am a newbie when it comes to Windows 8.1. When I was checking out task manager I discovered some items that I am just curious if any of them have to start when the computer boots or if I can disable them. They are:

(a) Catalyst Control Center Launcher (3)
(b) CyperLink Youcam Service (2)
(c) HP SimplePass Application (4)
(d) HP SimplePass BHO Broker
(e) HP SimplePass BHO Broker
(f) HP Audio Background Process
(g) Realtek HD Audio Manager

Thanks and regards,
2harts4ever

To my knowledge anything with "youcam" is useless.
I wouldn't disable the two audio related items.

No, not all of them will startup on demand. If CCC has any tweaks done to it, it needs to run from start. Same with Realtek HD manager.

Hi CountMike and caperjack,

I appreciate the information from both of you. I ended up just disabling the three SimplePass items for now and I'll see how it goes.

Thanks and regards,

Hi caperjack and broe23,

I had to 'google' Biometric reader to see what it was so after reading about it I guess I was correct in disabling it on my computer ...lol

Thanks to both of you for your information and have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks and regards,

If you disable everything from start up it does not mean it will never run or be useless. I would just keep the AMD CCC and anti virus. Even Realtek is not that important.

realtek HD audio manager.. i guess if you disable that you may lose your volume control ability.. definitely try disabling all HP software though.. i would seriously uninstall all HP software.. i've had nothing but bad luck with HP software.. it always wants this and that, and tries to give you even more software that you dont ever even use.. etc..

merry Christmas
