You are probably using the basic Windows 8.1 edition then, since the basic version doesn't include GPEdit in it.

I'm using basic edition and I get this when trying to run it:

acually, now I come to check, what I have is "Windows 8.1 Full version, 64-bit". I was obviously confused, equating "full version" with professional. Thanks to everyone who replied.

I wonder, if that's one of those things that could be copied over from another computer that actually has it?

I've done that with several other things, like the MS card games in XP.

I install only the 32 bit versions of Windows 8.1, even though my PC is 64 bit capable, because the 64 bit version does not have backward compatibility for 16 bit programs. The 32 bit version DOES!

Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

See if gpedit is available in the Console Root:
Start>mmc>File>Add/Remove Snap-in...>Available snap-ins:

If not, you'll have to jump through some flaming hoops to enable it. You'll have to Google the subject.
