    Yes.
The actual Windows "bits" are good.
    Metro is awful.

yes because it doesn't give me the freedom to choose if i want a start button or don't want the touch screen interface since i don't use touch screens so win 8 is irrelevant to me. il'l stay on win 7 untill MS brings a os that is more appealing to me.

I don’t think it’s that bad. I just don’t think that it’s that good either. What I mean is that I don’t see any reason why it’s better than Windows 7 and I see no reason to change.

Question for you Frank, if you don't mind - ( only because you are the last person who posted)

Do you see what MS are trying to do here?

I do not mind the question. I am not an expert so can only give you my honest opinion. The only thing that I can see MS as doing is what any business wants to do and that is sell more products. There is, of course, nothing wrong with that. But, there may be other reasons that I don't understand.

Right on target. They want to make more money, and the big money now is in the mobile market (see the success of Apple).

I guess Mr. Sinofsky was right, he may get away with it.

With enough money, marketing and reimagining, a company can get the masses to accept and even like anything.

"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche." (Let them eat cake.)

I answered "No", It's not that bad, but not the paradigm shifter that Windows 95 was, that I hoped it would be. Apps are for the most part likely to be irrelevant for the PC user, Metro and search just waste time, and are a backward step, although the start menu was not great either.
In all I have rethought how I use windows, so Windows 8 has made me better - by avoiding the hopelessly redundant ways to do things and just focusing on a single way to do things. I even use the command line and shortcuts more than I did before and it saves time. It is getting more like using Linux with every new version, which means I spend less time using Linux, so MS must be doing something right!
