I have been working on getting a group policy to work, but have not had success. I have enabled the policy through gpedit.msc, and it is showing as enabled, however it is not being enforced. Is there a step that I missed along the way? Thanks.

Hi Brink, and thanks for the welcome. I am on Windows 8.1 home. I am trying to disable Incognito mode in Chrome, so the group policy is IncognitoModeAvailability. I have enabled it, and chose the disable option.

From all of my research, I downloaded a patch that would allow me to run group policy on home edition. I then downloaded the policy templates for chrome and done everything that I could find to do, but it is still not working properly. Any ideas?

Hmmm, wonder if it's something with the Chrome templates.

I think the templates are designed for server for network use. Are you trying to get this to work on a single machine at home? If so, there may be some network settings required to identify the machine. Also, it may not work at all.

May take adjusting settings in the Windows Settings portion of Group Policy Editor. Getting into territory there that I don't want to mess with as could cause system problems. Will bow out to Brink or someone else who might be more of an IT person. Sorry. :(

Popeye- I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am trying to use it on a single machine at home, so I was afraid there would be an issue with that. However, I was hoping it would work. Then when I couldn't get it to work, I was hoping I could consult all of the people here who are way smarter than me and someone might have an answer...

Either way I am grateful to all!

Thill,

Since you have 8.1 and not 8.1 Pro, that would be why this is not working. Group Policy is not supported in the 8.1 edition. As you found out, the hacks to add GPEDIT to non supported editions do not work.

If you like, you could set the policy via Registry Editor instead. The link below shows you all the registry settings for each group policy to help. You will often need to sign out/in or restart the PC to apply them.

Group Policy Search

However, I don't recognize the policy in your screenshot.

EDIT:

Found this below for this policy.

Policy List - The Chromium Projects

Thanks Brink. Going through Regedit is where I started yesterday. I tried various ways and then read that the latest version of Chrome is programmed to ignore registry entries that are manually entered (something about malware writing entries and causing issues. Bummer.

Where I was reading, i was told to put it in a Chrome folder instead of a Chromium folder. I will try again this way and see what happens.

Thanks again for your help!
