Fresh install taking to much space

Hello,

I've built a new machine and installed Windows 8.1 and all the updates and i only have 69 GB free of a 111GB SSD.
Take in consideration that i have not a single app installed, I've already ran the disk utility and freed some space.
Can this be because i have a relatively large amount of memory (24GB)?

Yes. Probably the pagefile.sys, Hiberfil.sys are the culprit. Go to the folder options and turn on "Show Hidden Files" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files ..." then look under C:\ drive. The Pagefile.sys and Hiberfil.sys probably occupy big chunk of your SSD space.

In addition, after installation and running all the updates, look under: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. Those are downloaded updates that have been installed in your PC, you can safely delete those, just make sure Windows Updates is not currently running.

Also from Admin command prompt, run: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

For hiberfil.sys. You cannot manually remove it but if you turn off hibernation, reboot, Windows will automatically remove it. To turn off hibernation, from admin command prompt type: powercfg.exe /hibernate off

Since you have 24GB of RAM, pagefile.sys probably will never get used. However, some old applications require existence of this file and also to create memory dump if your PC gets BSOD. You can reduce this to minimum size of 1GB. That's what I did with my PC.

NOTE: hibernation must be on if you use fastboot feature, otherwise just turn it off. I don't use this feature so have mine turned off.

Thank you very much!

I did all you suggested less resizing the pagefile and it's that much better now.
