Hard drive icons

Hello,

I've noticed that in Windows explorer the hard drive icons don't always look the same. e.g. my C: drive has a windows symbol on it, presumably because that is the one which has windows on it. A drive which is shared has an image of a hand on it. etc. etc.

Is there a list somewhere which tells you what all the different symbols mean? My E: drive has a symbol of a head (or a face) on it, which I think means that there is some "user" aspect to that drive, but I can't work out what.

hi, i have never expierence that, i dont think anyway , sure its not from some third party software you installed, mine all look like external HDD cases

Well, your C: drive has a windows image on it, so that is the same as mine. I turned sharing off for the E: drive and lo and behold the faces/heads icon disappeared so I guess that is the explanation.

Still doesn't explain why I can't create a system image backup on the E: drive, but that's a different issue.

I remember there being an icon list but no icon descriptions. I will search into it.

Ok all I could find was a list of most of the windows icons. It is on your computer at C:\windows\System32\imageres.dll
