Error when using Media Player to Rip CDs to Flash Drive

I would like to store all of my cd music on a flash drive and then freecycle the cds. My cds are taking up entirely too much room. However, after following the steps on how to use Windows Media Player to rip cds to mp3 format, I received an "error" each time I tried. Is there a way to either rip or convert the cda format to mp3? Thanks.

What is the exact error you receive when you try to rip with Windows Media Player?

Have you tried ripping to your hard drive then copy/move to the flash drive?
