Hi All,
my windows 8 asus vivobook x202e will not boot up to windows.
When powered on it says preparing automatic repair and just sits there for hours if left be.
Before this issue started I did not make any recovery disk and the PC did not come with any either.
I called both Asus and Microsoft and got nowwhere. Asus says call Microsoft to get recover media and Microsoft says it is Asus's problem. It is just out of warranty (over 1 year old) cost $400 and I need to have it working.
I tried the BIOS changing etc and tried f9 function key but to no await.
Any suggestions on what could be tried to fix I would appreciate it.

Welcome to Eight Forums,

Really surprised ASUS could not direct you even though out of warranty. Think still has to be a recovery partition on this notebook and going to have to get the Product key to do the below, believe should be in BIOS or contact ASUS again. Some others here may know how to recover it.

In Bios saw no kind of diagnostics ? Download manual here http://www.asus.com/supportonly/X202E/HelpDesk_Manual/

Chances need to create Windows Media installation disc or USB Flash.
Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

Look here Computer stuck in "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop - Microsoft Community

F8 should then bring you to the Boot manager after have disc or USB made.

No i did not find any diagnostics in the boot menu. I can get to boot menu and have tried to use the image file I created on another PC but for some reason it does not load up on the Asus X202e.
A friend said it may be that my disc drive has gone bad.
are there any utility you can suggest that will diagnose disc drive issues that can be ran from usb or dvd drive since i can not boot up the x202e.
other ideas? I am totally stuck here.thank you all

If you go to the hard drive manufacturers web site you should be able to find a diagnostic that you can run from a USB thumb drive or similar. Do you know what version of Windows 8 was installed on this PC? Option One here, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html? will let you download an ISO or create bootable media to do a clean install of Windows 8.1. No product code is needed to do the download. If you match the version to what was installed by the OEM it will read and use your embedded OEM key. You won't be prompted to enter one and it will activate online automatically with no issues. Even if it's an 8.0 key.

Odds are its Core or (Core) Single Language. The 8.1 install media created with the Media Creation Tool will accept windows 8.0 keys. My ASUS laptop came with 8.0 Core. I installed 8.1 Core from that download and it used my laptops embedded OEM 8.0 key. Activated online automatically with no issues. If you end up having to do a clean install you may as well go with 8.1.
