    Hello,

I'll give it a shot. It could be many things, and it is VERY hard to tell without it being in front of me, and without knowing exactly what you have installed, but maybe check these five simple solutions (and two complex solutions), which have caused the same issue(s) for me, and clients of mine, in the past, before diving into more complex/technical possibilities:

    • Is there a CD in the drive? Take it out & try the restart test.
    • Is there a USB Flash Drive plugged in? Again, take it out, and try the restart test.
    • Unplug ALL external devices. For example: Printers, drives, gadgets, and phones. Restart to test.
    • Check the Antivirus. Try disabling it, then doing a shut-off/turn-on. Don't forget to turn it back on!
      • This is just to see if it has anything to do with the cause, and if it does, then we can get into configuration options.
      • When disabling, choose "Permanent", only to make sure it stays disabled throughout the restart process. Then enable it again after testing.

    • Start-up programs.
      • Open the Start Up Programs dialog:
        • On your keyboard, press WINDOWS+R for the RUN window.
        • Type taskmgr and click OK or press ENTER on your keyboard.

      • -or-
        • Press CTRL-ALT-DEL simultaneously on your keyboard.
        • Click TASK MANAGER.

      • Click the Start-Up tab at the top of the dialog that just popped up.
      • Then highlight highlight each entry, and click DISABLE (keep note of which you disable so you can re-ENABLE them, if necessary).
      • Restart to check.
      • If it fixed it, re-ENABLE each one, and restart after each, to find out which Start-Up Program caused the issue.

    • Services. Only attempt this if you know what you are doing!
      • This can get really complex, too complex to even type here, but if it comes to this point, post a reply, and we can take it from there. Part of the troubleshooting will require a list of your currently installed & running services.

    • BIOS Settings. Only attempt this if you know what you are doing!
      • Again, this will have to be done as a separate conversation, and will require your BIOS software info & exact version.

Try those first, and see what happens...

    Enjoy,

    -WW

Last option 'Start up Programs' was the one that slowed mine. I disabled everything in the start up - didn't need any of them for me.
Used a program called "Autoruns for Windows" following suggestions from adamf ('Guru' member) - unchecked the Logon programs from there

I understand - it was just to pinpoint your problem. Now we need to find a solution. What is the model/specs of that drive?
