Win 8.1 search for "restore point" gives no results found.

It used to take me to where I could create a restore point.

Try System File Checker, right click Windows Start Button on Desktop select Command Prompt (Admin)
    Copy and Paste this

    sfc /scannow

Do not close prompt then copy paste

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    Try search again.

    Hello RJA,

In addition, if you like, you could use a shortcut in the tutorial below to make manually creating restore points on demand easier.

    In addition, I always run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth before sfc /scannow.
With the component store repaired, sfc works better.

I run them in a batch file like this---

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow
    pause
