My Laptop had fast start up enabled.
I have disabled it. let me check how it works for me.
But I just have a question.
Why this fast startup is provided in windows 8.
If windows 8 is hanging on startup this option is useless.

It works as advertised for most users, and for some it causes issues. It's been my experience that Upgrade installs can cause issues that you wouldn't get with a clean install. It looks like your PC has a hibernate/sleep issue. You state it won't go into sleep mode. If your PC works fine after disabling Fast Startup that would back that up.

I said my laptop wont go to sleep mode in the sense that I have configured my power options in such a way that it wont go to sleep.
In my laptop sleep and hibernate works fine.
I will let you know whether the above options helped

It looks like your PC has an issue when coming out of hibernation. Fast Startup is a hybrid sleep mode. When enabled your PC doesn't fully shut down. My guess is something got messed up when you did the upgrade. If you were to do a clean install of 8.1 you likely wouldn't have your current issue and Fast Startup would work as advertised. It does work for a lot of people. Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it doesn't work for everybody.
