Hello all, my boot up time is extremely long like 5 min. Problem started when I manually retrieved a DVD from laptop.
I tried a bunch of things to rebuild boot file to no avail.
Tried: SFC scan- no integrity problems. Tried to rebuild in command prompt x: (advanced startup options) and got win installations 0 then tried to rebuild with bootrec but system would not recognize bcedit syntax??. Did chkdsk in normal mode and no errors found, then did chkdsk in safe mode and said found errors on disk but was not able to to get details from event log service as it was not available-arg. Tried bootrec /recbuildbcd with FixMbr option and still no fix. Did a system refresh, checked all app in start up via Task Manager- no issues. Checked event manager in normal mode and could not see any logs around the time when the problem started. System runs fine when it finally boots but there is obviously a problem and would like to return system to normal. Finally the question, I created a recovery USB drive when I first got the comp and was wondering if I could use this to Reset Win 8.1 and if this might rebuild my boot file to it's original state. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I don't think it is your bootmgr which is holding it up. If that were corrupted, you would not boot.

Places where I would look are:

  • Startup programs - disable all
  • Condition of the disk
  • Is the holdup in the BIOS phase or the Windows phase
  • Check what the real boot time is in event 100 of event viewer. Drill down this chain:

Eventvwr
Applications and Service Logs
Microsoft
Windows
Diagnostics - performance
Operational
Event ID 100
