Can't find principals to add to security settings

I have a laptop running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit with Media Center. The laptop has a problem with the repeating SvcRestartTask error in Event Viewer. I read some people had luck with fixing that by copying files from C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SoftwareProtectionPlatform and exporting-importing the tasks found at Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler > Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > SoftwareProtectionPlatform from an up to date Windows 8 computer that doesn't have the repeating error to the computer that has the error. I'm stuck at adding the permissions for the files I copied. Files copied from an NTFS file system to a flash drive don't keep their permissions so I'm reconfiguring the permissions. There are two principals I can't find: sppsvc and Microsoft-Windows-SoftwareProtectionPlatform-SvcRestartTask. I try to add them and see the error message An object (User, Group, or Built-in security principal) with the following name cannot be found: "sppsvc". Check the selected object types and locations for accuracy and ensure that you have typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection. If those two principals can be added then I must be trying to do it the wrong way. How can I do it?

I found I don't have to copy files from C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SoftwareProtectionPlatform. Importing the XML files results in the creation of the files I thought I need to copy. However, not all of the settings are importing. SvcRestartTask seems to have the most problems.

My mom owns this laptop. It's made by Samsung and came with Windows 8 64-bit. We upgraded it to Pro with Media Center. As far as I know no one's done anything dodgy with it like trying to install cracked software. The Security-SPP errors related to the SoftwareProtectionPlatform go back to September 1st in Event Viewer.

Edit: I rechecked Event Viewer. Actually the errors go back to August 31. I checked if anything was installed on that day- checked programs and updates- but found nothing.

Are you having any problems other than the error in Event Viewer? If not, why worry about it?

Edit: Sorry, that sounded sort of snarky, not meant that way. Many times, in trying to resolve errors recorded in Event Viewer that are not causing any problems, a problem is introduced, so unless there is some reason to fit it, why do so?

I understand what you meant. Reminds me of QuickBooks and the Sidebyside error. However, this laptop has approximately 50,500 errors about this one problem in Event Viewer generated during the last 3 months. Also, for some reason, if the laptop is left idle long enough it will freeze and won't unfreeze. The laptop has to be switched off and on again. That seems to happen when its plugged in to a power outlet with or without the battery. If it runs only from the battery, unplugged, it seems to have no trouble with freezing. Sometimes there's a bluescreen error about watchdog timer. I researched that and tried some things that didn't help. Though, those two issues might not be related to the errors in Event Viewer. Generally, this laptop's been a disaster. The laptop is a Samsung NP350V5C. The bluetooth driver provided by Samsung wasn't compatible with Windows 8 and caused bluescreen errors, too, so I uninstalled that. I tried checking the cooling in the laptop and found the plastic of the case is such poor quality that I couldn't remove screws without breaking their plastic standoffs. No idea how the factory workers assembled it. I hate the laptop but it's what I have to work with right now. Next laptop purchase won't be a Samsung. I'll give a different company a chance to impress me.

Here are some posts in other places that describe my problem:

I'll try converting the Windows 8 Pro install.esd to a wim file and extracting the three xml files to import again in to Task Scheduler.

Are there any .dmp files in C:\Windows\minidump?

If yes, it would be a good idea to post here: BSOD Crashes and Debugging - Windows 8 Forums

Start with the first post in the thread: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and follow it's directions.

Hopefully resolving the BSOD problem will resolve the cause of the Event Viewer error.
