Music folder suddenly splits into multiple artist folders

HI everyone,
Thanks goodness for forums !
I have windows 8 laptop. Nokia Lumia 1020 win8 phone, and I had Samsung allshare for my TV installed.
I had a simple music folder.
EG: albums, all singles, classical .

Now, in Music folder, it has created folders for every single artist and its album with one song in it.
So now, I have 1000s of folders alphabetically of every single performer on my laptop.
Its making lose the will to live....I cannot even fathom how this has happened !!
I am so hoping that SOMEONE has an answer for me.
Years of computing experience and within seconds I am reduced to homer simpson.

Well Jo, you've company here and I've not taken the effort to find the cause or improve on it.
I posted here so that I'll be notified if anyone comes up with a solution
