Waking my computer

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find out much about the BIOS on your Motherboard but I imagine you've looked pretty thoroughly already. Just to make sure, are there any settings in your BIOS for power options/ACPI? As far as the prolonged sleep/hibernate problem is concerned, if you've already changed the USB hub properties, I can only guess there's some other device that's not responding to a wake up signal.

For what it's worth, I just installed Windows 8 on an spare PC and it has no problems waking on mouse/keyboard from sleep or hibernate. I haven't, however, let the PC sleep for more than 15 minutes. I haven't changed any of the default settings and there's no power option on the hardware tab for the mouse. Maybe it's a chipset specific problem...

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I am playing with every bios option there is. I left it in abeyance, but this thread aroused my interest again. Fwiw. It is Phoenix bios.:

    Do you have these options?

Tks, Calico. A few of those settings were not available. The only one which was different was "Wake up by PCI card", which I had enabled. Anyway, I,ll mess with a few things and post back (much) later.

Unfortunately, I have made no progress, but it's no big deal at this stage. Playing around with the Bios settings led me into some booting problems so I have had to return them to the default and work through them again. Now back to what I call "normal"
Thanks again for the support though.

My two ASUS motherboards have jumpers that will let you feed the AUX +5V to the USB ports and the PS2 ports. The default position is just the normal +5V from the power supply when the PC is on. Switching them to the AUX +5V means they have power even when the PC is off. The main function is to let me turn the PC on by pressing a key or clicking my mouse. I'm not sure if it effects standby or hibernate as I don't use those modes. The manual seems to suggest it does but the description leaves a lot to be desired. Anyway, if your motherboard has similar jumpers you could try switching them to the AUX +5v setting.

    Thanks. I'll have a look

I think you may have it! I looked in my manual and I do have a jumper for power to the USBs. Next time I open the cabinet I'll check it.

Later. I have not opened up yet - I'm still trying to find what is diffrent in Windows 8, through the registry. No sleep problems in any previous OS's, including the developer.

Well, for the other two posters who have the problem, I solved mine (in Windows 8). A disappointing solution, but it might work for them.
In my Power settings, I have, since Vista, always selected "Balanced"

Under "Change Advanced Power Settings" - "USB selective suspend settings", I have always had this disabled. I did not want any interference with my USBs. This has worked, for sleep mode, right through from Vista. It seems that MS might have changed the understanding of this briefly entitled function. I have now found that enabling it, has solved my sleep problem???
