I've got a Windows 8 ASUS laptop here, after you login all you get is a black screen, a battery option is the only UI that pops up in the top corner, but it doesn't do much anyhow. Ctrl-Alt-Del will work, and allow me to get to task manager and check things, but I couldn't find too much useful from here.
Ah, to be clear, the mouse cursor is what shows up, and I can move it around freely without a problem, just no UI elements show up, if I try Win+X or something, it is still completely black but makes the sound, I assume it's some sort of graphical error, the PC has some not so friendly stuff on it, but it's hard to remove most of it in just safe mode for me.
I did, after looking around elsewhere decide to run sfc /scannow
It did say that there were issues with corruption it couldn't fix, and put them in a CBS.log file, trying to find a good way to upload this from that computer now, I'm assuming I'll probably have to do it in networking safe mode if this is necessary.
If any other info is necessary, I'll definitely provide it.
