Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to store some sensitive documents (pdfs, docxs, etc) in a password protected and encrypted folder or container (such as .iso or .vhd) that allows for adding or editing the contained files without having to create a new password protected container? I want to keep important documents in my OneDrive so that they don't get lost, but I want to have some form of additional level of security on them.

I have Windows 8.1 non-pro so bitlocker and GPE is not an option, and I'd like to avoid using a third party solution because I'm concerned about not being able to unlock my files if the application is no longer available or incompatible or something. Macs *spit* have a native means of creating encrypted disk images which can then be mounted and used like a normal volume, but for Windows the closest equivalent is a Pro or Enterprise edition exclusive :(

thanks.

I see it for $65 at one of the sites from the Google link I posted.

Not cheap but it would allow you to do what you want, right?

But then i'd have to pay at least $65 to upgrade any computer I want to open my documents on.

hi, i use the paid version of Boxcryptor, but if you're using only one cloud provider & don't care about scrambled filenames, the free version is an option. You don't have to store your encryption key with them (i personally would never use encryption where I had to trust some provider), you can store it locally. You can copy the key to each of your PCs. And you don't even have to use it with cloud providers -- it'll work with any folder.

Viivo is another option I've been meaning to check out. I believe it's free for non-commercial use. Anyway, I plan to check it out before I renew my Boxcryptor in case it's better/cheaper.

You can't have it both ways. If you want a built-in encryption you need pro otherwise you need a 3rd party program.

Another way would be to Zip the files and put a good password on the zip file but agian you would need a 3rd party program like WinZip or 7-zip. The built in zip does not support password protection.
