I recently installed 8 and eventually 8.1. Every 5-10 mins no matter what i'm doing, explorer freezes. THe only thing i can click on is the taskbar. The bar eventually crashes after a few clicks and then explorer restarts, but with a few of my icons near the clock missing. I then have to log out or reboot to restore everything. This recently started. I thought it was a bad install, so i wiped my drive and re-installed, but still the sane its made win 8 quite useless, this thing is driving me crazy. I'm close to going back to win 7. First version of windows I purchased ever. This is probably payback for pirating windows for the last 20 years :)

i7 3770k stock speed and oc to 4.6 (doesnt matter, still crashees)
16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
Samsung EVO 840 ssd 256gb

This recently started. I thought it was a bad install, so i wiped my drive and re-installed, but still the same.
Most users install 3rd-party software for a variety of purposes. Have you done so before the crashes? Or are the crashes occurring soon after a 'clean' install?

It happens soon after a 'clean' install. If i open a folder with video files it crashes.

I solved the problem. I went back to my pirated version of windows 7. Just wasted hundreds of dollars on windows 8. Guess my computer isn't good enough to run Windows 8

Hi kingturbofox

could you explain more about the "folder with video"
what is the video format?
is there any other file in this folder?
does explorer crash if you move this video to another folder?
