Aero Peek Not Working in Windows 8

Last week I had to do a factory reset due to incompatibility problems with my employer's software for remote working and win 8.1. I'm now back to win 8, have installed all of my software, disabled the edge swipes to stop the charm bar opening (it still does randomly), but now, my aero peek is not working. It is enabled, but grayed out, and not working. That feature was available in win 7 and it is the only thing I like about win 8 and 8.1. Is there a solution to get aero peek back?

Have you put Windows 8.1 update back on yet ?

Right Click Start Button, select System, select Advanced System settings then settings, is Enable peek selected in Visual Effects.

Windows 8 , right click the very right hand bottom corner of your screen and click on "Peek at Desktop"
this should be checked.

Did you shut off charms bar from Taskbar Properties under Navigation Tab ? Some remote access software can cause issues with certain drivers will make Aero peek not work.

I haven't re-installed Win 8.1 yet as it plus the new software from my employer is most likely what caused me to have the black screen. The only solution for that was to do the factory reset. I can't risk that happening again with 8.1.

I'm hoping there is an easy solution to get aero peek back, but nothing about 8 and 8.1 is easy, just problematic. I can live without aero peek, but it was handly when I had numerous windows open.

Way check if this software is compatible with windows 8 or 8.1 ? Unless you put it on now with just Windows 8, can not really say it is just 8.1. Go to Windows 8 compatibility center, if yo find it listed there Windows Compatibility Center

The problem with the black screen happened Thursday afternoon and I had to start working remotely Friday morning. So I spent the rest of Thursday afternoon and evening with Lenovo Tech Support and then my employer's Tech Support to re-install all of the necessary software with Win 8 and then ensure it was working properly. It has been working fine with win 8 since then (Friday morning until now). My employer's software is compatible with win 7 and win 8, the problem was with 8.1 and that was confirmed by Lenovo Tech Support along with a host of other win 8.1 problems from multitudes of Win 8 and 8.1 users. Every Tech Support agent I have spoken with, as part of the conversation, will mention the numerous problems with win 8 and 8.1.

So received black screen after installing your employees software on Windows 8.1, but as of now have not put that software back on from your employee with just Windows 8 ? Is this correct ?

The remote service has been working fine so far with Windows 8 ? What numerous other problems, except one having now with Aero peek ? You mean tech support through Lenovo ? Most cases it's with certain software and drivers that may not work with 8.1.

I asked how you chnged charms bar, suggested other ways to know if it enabled, did not respond to those.
My Aero peek works fine in my Windows 8.1 Pro, have not got many problems with 8.1 as far as they are saying this to you, again a lot of this is due to compatibility issues.

As far as remote software assume can't use it with 8.1, do not recommend you having to avoid updating Windows 8 not a good idea, cause you more issues in future ask anyone else here. Do not know how exactly Aero Peek greyed out unless was due to charms bar being disabled and how it was disabled. Mention this to Lenovo tech support ?

As said before about remote software can cause issue with Aero peek, you may possibly have a Mirror Driver installed , often used with screen sharing software which can disable aero peek and even windows 7 aero themes. A mirror driver is a Windows device driver used in extended desktops, remote desktop software and assistive technology.

I have Classic Shell installed and I used that to disable (as much as possible) the charms bar. I right-clicked the Classic Shell Start Button, clicked Settings, clicked Windows 8 Settings, checked the box for Skip Metro Screen, checked the box for Disable Active Corners: All (I also tried it by checking the box for Disable Active Corners: Start Screen). Either way, aero peek is not working. I also tried right clicking task bar, and instructions at http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5663-peek-desktop-turn-off-windows-8-a.html , but it didn't help.

O.k. i did not know you were using Classic Shell. Not familiar with using this product and if it can cause this, but since is changes some things in Windows 8 through using this program and not through Windows 8 way, it could be a possibility it did something. What you need to try to figure is when this exactly happened after what else was put back on system after the recovery of Windows 8 by Lenovo.

Could be a way to narrow down if it is a those programs or another or there drivers that did this. Did this occur right after reinstall of Windows 8, or after putting the companies software on or Classic shell. Was this Aero peek working before with both these softwares on system ?

Obvious something changed this, i suspected from research was a driver used in remote software, not sure about Classic shell, but till now did not know you had it.

2 days ago, I uninstalled Classic Shell completely. And then checked to see if the Aero Peek was still grayed/dimmed. It is. You may know more about how to fix the problem than I do, but I don't think the problem is in Classic Shell. I've had Classic Shell installed on this laptop from about a week after I purchased it (a year) and aero peek always worked. I really have no idea why it is grayed out. If it's a settings change, I can't find any info on how to enable it other than what I previously tried as I stated earlier, so I am open to suggestions. By the way, aero peek was working after I installed my employer's software, but that was when I had win 8.1 installed. Peek was also working after the factory reset back to win 8, and also working after my employer's software was again re-installed. It was after that that I installed Classic Shell and the only change I remember making was in the CS settings to disable the side swipes to try and stop that infernal charms bar. I noticed aero peek was no longer working after that.

O.k. i did not know you were using Classic Shell.
