Permissions Problems After Upgrading From Win 7

    Hi everyone!

So I just took the plunge and upgraded to 8.1 from Win 7. I'm having trouble moving, copying, and deleting files. I'm an administrator, I have full permissions, but when I try to do anything I get the following File Access Denied message:

You require permission from (My Username) to make changes to this file.

Now my new 8.1 username is the same as my old Win 7 username, but I'm guessing it is referring to my old username in that message since I'm logged into my new one, even though the old one no longer exists. Does the file now belong to a phantom user? How do I fix this? Frustrating.

    Thank you for your time!

You have to take ownership of the Windows.old folder, by changing its security permissions to "Everyone", with Full Read/Write access.

When I try to do this, I get a lot of "Failed to enumerate objects in container" messages regarding various files within the Win.old folder. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

You have to make sure you are giving ownership to "Everyone", along with the sub-folders in the Advanced section. You should be able to just drag any documents, photos, videos, music from the windows.old to the new install of 8. I do not suggest that you keep the files on the hard drive, in case something happens to the drive. Always keep a copy on either a NAS or USB pocket drive like the Toshiba Cavio.
