Windows 8.1 Pro freezes randomly

Hi, I have a problem with Windows 8.1 random freezes (during system closing, login, listening to music, etc.). I did everything I could do and cannot find the problem. Strange thing is that Windows 7 works fine, Windows 8 works fine, Windows 8.1 - crashes. It's my third time I install Windows 8.1. Few months ago I've updated Win7 to Win8 and did the update to 8.1. Same problem. Now I bought SSD drive and did fresh Windows 8.1 installation - same problem again!

Strange thing is that when I formatted HDD with Win 8.1 and bring back Win 7 - many HDD errors has been fixed by Win 7 installation.

I did everything I know to do and can't find solution - DISM, ScanDisk, memory testing - nothing. Now I'm trying to find errors with Western Digital repair tool (but Windows crashed....). Any help, please?

My configuration:
AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition AM3 BOX
WD Caviar Blue WD10EALX (1TB, SATA/600)
OCZ ZS 550W SLI135mm
MSI 970A-G46
Asus Radeon HD 7770 DirectCU 1024MB DDR5 PCI-E BOX V2
A-Data DDR3 8GB 1333MHz CL9

And now:
Crucial SSD MX100 (2.5", 256GB, SATA/600)

Unless you are saying you can remove W8.1 and reinstall W7 and have no problems, then we cannot be sure this a W8.1 problem. It could be hardware that is untimely, failing.

If me, I would swap in a known good PSU to make sure you are feeding your system good, clean, stable power. What are your temps?

Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS and see if the problem remains.

Have you tried doing a clean 8.1 install without first going thru 8.0, then the update? You can get the 8.1 iso with some tricks and a generic key to install it...

It is important we read what the poster has posted in his posts. He stated he has 8Gb and he also stated he did a fresh install and he said memory testing.

Yes, I didn't have any problems with Win7 after deleting Win8.1 and installing Win7 again. I did clean install of Win 8.1 two days ago - problem persist. Than delete Win 8.1 and installed Win8 Pro yesterday - still got the problems.

I did memory testing, stress tests with AIDA64 - and nothing. Temps are fine (I've attached some print screen). temps.png

At this moment, I've disabled every service which is not Microsoft service - especially connected with GPU. Now I don't have any BSOD, but few months ago sometimes BSOD appeared after freezing and indicates problem with atikmdag.sys..

If problem will not disapear I will disable secure boot in BIOS. HDD is not the problem too - I've disconnected HDD and problem persists.

Unfortunately - freezing appeared again. Windows update freezed on 30%. After that, I've listened to music about hour - and nothing. Restarted computer and after maybe 5 minutes freeze again...

As I noted earlier, I would swap in a known good PSU - and I reiterate that after seeing your screen shot above.

Note the ATX Form Factor Standard for computer PSUs dictates ± 5% tolerances for the voltages.

12VDC ± 5% = 11.40V to 12.60V
5VDC ± 5% = 4.75V to 5.25V
3.3VDC ± 5% = 3.14V to 3.47V

Your +12VDC and +3.3VDC is fine. However, your 5VDC is too high at +5.802 for 16% out of tolerance.

I am not saying this IS your problem, but it sure could be.
