Hello,

I hope someone can help. I have just installed Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit on a new computer. The OS runs fine apart from I am constantly getting errors while running Steam, Spotify and Firefox. Oddly Google Chrome seems not to be affected. But those three programs keep getting the same error all the time. Sometimes I can't even listen to a song in Spotify when it apparently needs to close.

I'm getting stumped with this and don't know what to do.

Tried running programs in compatibility mode, didn't help. Changing my anti-virus program didn't help. Installing latest GPU drivers didn't help. Running a registry cleaner didn't help. Windows is up to date. There's no viruses or malware present.

Tried googling the issue but I didn't see a lot of similar situations. Some people seem to be getting this error installing programs but my installers run fine. It's when I try to run programs when I start getting this error. The frequency of this error is such that it prevents me from using the computer normally. After I've opened a program it may appear almost instantly, or it may take a few minutes to arrive.

An example of this error is with Steam.exe:

Faulty module DWrite.dll , version 6.3.9600.17111 , timestamp: 0x5360725d

Code: 0xc0000005

Deviancy ( I had to translate these terms, not sure if this is the correct term ) :0x0002d63c

Faulty process: 0x1240

Faulty application's path: D:\Steam\Steam.exe

Faulty module's path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\DWrite.dll

Application Error 1000

The error code is always the same: 0xc0000005

This is what the Event Log tells me. I don't know what to do and would really appreciate help. I can't use my computer normally because of this error that appears very frequently.
