Tuff N Tiny USB drive stopped working when copying files

I have the Tuff N Tiny - Verbatim 8GB memory stick. Similar to this one:
    http://cdn.skatter.com/blob/files/20...uff-n-tiny.jpg

I was copying some files from Windows 8.1 to a Mac OS X, did all safe removal stuff. But then plugged it into Mac and ... nothing. Plugged it again... still nothing. So I went back to Windows, which saw the drive but when I double-clicked on it, Windows hung up for about 10 seconds and then the drive disappeared from My Computer. I tried reformatting it but it failed too.

Does anyone have any idea what happened and how to make it work again?

You may have to reformat the memory stick, but that would delete everything on the drive.

    Hi ,
This was my usual experince with Mac and Windows file sharing.
One work around u can try is using disk utility in Mac to repair the USB drive. It may save your data from being lost and u can copy it to Mac. Then you can format it with Mac to fat drive and reformat it on windows 7 then the drive can be used on both system.

    Thank you both.

Regarding reformatting, I tried but when I right-click the drive in Windows I get a long pause and then the drive disappears. So I don't even get a context menu to select format from.

As for Disk Utility on a Mac, thanks. I'll try that. Just curious, in the future, what could be causing this issue? Shall I do something different to prevent this from happening again?

And if I try to reformat it on a Mac, the Erase tab is completely grayed out. I can't click the Erase button:

Ah this seems to be a tricky situation,
sorry buddy I am no good to comment on this.
i feel that this is generally a file system issue, but the output seems to be suggesting a HW issue.

Have u tried erasing this drive by selecting the parent listing above what you have selected "8 GB ..."
    Take a chance..

Yeah, looks like a hardware issue. I contacted Verbatim and they told me to send it in for RMA. I'm just not sure how long their warranty is. (This drive is about 4 yrs old.)
