Folders With Links Close After Closing Link

I have a new computer with Windows 8.1, which I believe is Microsoft's version of the New Coke!

Here is my problem: I have a couple of folders filled with links, & when I close the link page, the entire file closes, which didn't happen in XP.

    Thoughts, anyone?

You mean the folder closes. If you are using the Metro/Start Screen not Desktop. You are dealing with App Folders in Metro, not physical folders in explorer as you would in the desktop.

    Thank You For Your Reply!

You are correct, Sir! However, the same thing happens in Desktop View. As a matter of fact, this folder was created in Desktop & pinned to Start.

Explorer should not be closing, unless it is crashing. All updates installed on the computer? What A/V software are you running on the computer? What web browser are you using?

Problem Solved by Accident -- With Great Difficulty!

I tried to solve the problem by switching to the browser that I was using previously -- but I picked the wrong link!
I was besieged by popups! I looked for System Restore, but I couldn't find it (It's a new computer). Then, I saw something called Refresh, which I thought was just as good. WRONG! It got rid of the popups -- but it also got rid of Windows, not to mention software which I had just purchased!

But there was a silver lining. Windows was different after reinstallation. Instead of just an X in the corner, there Is now an X, a Box, & a Line, which weren't there before. And, now when I close a File in a Folder, the Folder stays open!

Unfortunately, the Files are stuck in alphabetical order! Does anyone know how to get it back to where I can drag & drop the Files to wherever I want?

Congrats, you ended up with 8.1 update 1, that's why you have minimize and that square in the title bars with Apps. System restore you can find in Control panel under Recovery. If by "files" you mean Tiles in Start screen you can still drag them and drop them but in All apps no.

    Drag & Drop Files

AHA! So. if I had purchased my computer a couple of weeks later, I wouldn't have had this problem in the first place. But I had to buy a new computer when I did, because the monitor went, & you don't buy a new monitor for a 10 1/2 year old computer. 10 1/2 years old? Good God, I'm turning into my Father!

Now, when I refer to drag & drop, I'm talking about files, which are links, which I have listed inside a folder. I these folders on both the Desktop & the Start Page. Before the upgrade, closing a file would close the entire folder. Now, I can close each file separately, but the files are frozen in position; they have to be organized in one way or another, whereas I want to drag & drop them & organize them by frequency of use. I've traded one problem for another, which is why I started this thread by saying that Windows 8.1 is Microsoft's version of The New Coke!

Does anyone know of a way around this?

Well, as far as I remember, Ne Coke didn't get fast start and flopped worse than diet one. That's what you get when you don't prepare people for a change properly.
Now I get it what you meant with folders and links, I never had problem with individual linked program to close the folder too. That may happen in Start screen apps but never on desktop. I also never noticed that links within folders can be placed in free order.

In IE 11, if I click on a link on a page, then click the back arrow to leave that page, and go back to the original page, it takes me to the top of the original page, rather than were I was on that page. I think there must be a setting that controls this, but I can't find it. Any solutions?
