Will removal of .net 4.5 disable the gui in windows 8.1

I have an app that needs .net 4.0. nothing higher. With windows 8.1, its embedded in windows. I disabled .net 4.5 on a windows server 2012 machine, and the gui stopped. Will the same thing happen on windows 8.1? Thank you.

It is entirely possible and even likely given that the server and desktop versions of Windows are based on the same core code.

So I'd say if you can't update the program to a version that isn't stupidly tied to a specific version of the .NET Framework, or is at least updated to work with .NET Framework 4.5, your next best option is to find an alternative for that program. If that's not an option for whatever reason, you're left with running an old OS in a VM just for that one program.
