WLM Win 8.1 Emptying all folders

Click image for larger versionA friend of mine is having problems with her Windows Live Mail. It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when she uses her Red X in the upper right corner to close the mail program she will get this message. When she opens WLM again every folder will be empty. Inbox-Sent Items-Junk Mail-Deleted Items. Does any one have a clue why this is happening? She does not have any e-mail or anything else open any where on her computer. I can't think of a single thing.

Hi there. Is WLM set as default email client? Does she have the account set up in her native Modern Store Email app? It may be conflicting?

An uninstall then reinstall of WLM might solve the problem.

Yes WLM is set as default. I don't know what you mean by is the account set up in her native Modern Store E-Mail app? She installed from the Microsoft Site.

    I'm assuming this is 8 or 8.1?

If so, is the same email address (account) also set up in the native Modern Mail app?

Also what I thought of > Is this a local or Live/MS account she uses to sign into her computer with?

that is the mail app that is located on the start screen ,just posting because most people don't know what native modern app means

I use wlm on my desktop and in the start modern app for 2 years now and have never seen this error .I just tried multiple things with bot email apps open to the same email even to recreate the error but could not ,

My initial though is that the permissions for c:\Users\paul\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail are messed up (replace paul with where yours are stored)

This would explain the error when exiting as it cannot save the items and why they are blank when reopening (but I would have expected the error to happen every time not randomly)

I've never had this problem with my WLM either. She used a Hotmail address when she set up her Win 8.1, then she installed WLM and only uses that account. She uses a POP account for her WLM. I do the same thing and I have no problems like she does. She never uses the Hotmail Account for anything.

It only happens randomly. She uses the e-mail from her desktop and not from the start screen. She has her computer set so she does not have to sign in each time also. When she shuts down and reopens it will automatically go to the desktop without logging in.

Hey, quick question. I can't seem to find a way to add new folders to the Folders group under This PC. Last I checked, the only way was to insert the CLSID into the registry at those locations, but what about custom folders without a CLSID? I don't want to go around trying to register new CLSID...
