can't wake from sleep using keyboard or WOL

I just upgraded the APU and motherboard of my HTPC and i had to format. I used to be able to wake it using 2 keyboards but now it isn't working anymore.

In the device manager, the option "allow this device to wake computer from sleep" is enabled

In power management, USB selective suspend is turned off.

My motherboard is MSI a75m-e45.

In BIOS advanced settings, in the "wake up event setup" options, there is an option called "wake up event by:"
It is currently set to "OS"

The second option is "BIOS" which unlocks the following options:
"wake up from S3 with USB device"
"wake up from S3/S4/S5 by PS/2 keyboard"

Wether i enable or disable these options, the computer still won't wake from sleep using any USB devices...

It is also impossible to wake the computer sending a magic packet with the correct MAC address. I used to be able to do that before the recent hardware change.

I use Windows 8.1, installed on a SSD
All drivers latest version

Also did you check the USB root hub in device manager right click it select power management Tab and uncheck this " Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ". I found sometimes in Power management settings doesn't always work.

Which brand keyboard or mouse are you using ? Since i do not use sleep i see no other option in power options to set keyboard as device to wake, assume what you tried should of worked with setting in device manager, use this device to wake checked.

Might be something in keyboard or mouse settings. What is WOL ? Device manager is there anything listed in Human Interface devices if so try checking the same option there, also look under keyboard check same option, so on for mouse.

I am 100% sure it is not a problem with my keyboards. I use two different keyboards (one wired and one wireless). I woke up my HTPC everyday using both of them for over 4 years before i upgraded the hardware this week.

WOL is Wake-On-Lan, which isn't working just like wake-on-usb. Another thing pointing that it is a problem with the sleep/wake configuration, since both of them ain't working.

Wired keyboard is inland
Wireless keyboard is iogear

I also have a wireless logitech mouse that also can't wake the HTPC.

Device manager is there anything listed in Human Interface devices if so try checking the same option there, also look under keyboard check same option, so on for mouse.
Yes there is a lot of thing listed in the "human interface devices" but they are all allowed to wake the computer

Might be something in BIOS. Do not know where else to look, why i thought to check the devices software (keyboard n Mouse ), also make sure there drivers are up to date.

What are other options there ?

Does your keyboard have a sleep button, i know some do ? Shooting at ideas here, cause i am not too familiar with this truthfully.
Thought i might of had it on last few. Had a similar issue with my external drive not spinning down lately and it was doing it for as long as i had it. Tried some of same things you did. Made me try software for the drive and that worked, but them i decided to remove it and for some reason it is working again.

Do not know if some similar settings are in my BIOS as yours, might not, to check to see for suggestion.

Hi there. Just a stab in the dark, but I had a similar problem where my keyboard and mouse wouldn't wake the machine. It turned out to be a faulty PSU. You stated you changed the MoBo and the APU. Are all connectors on and fitted properly? Is your PSU suitable now?

All connectors are connected of course

Ok good. Like I stated it was a stab in the dark. We can now pretty much rule out hardware, but rather a software problem.

This was a fresh install, correct?

Seems a possibility that none of your keyboards or mouse are compatible, either there software, drivers. See no other research pointing towards anything else. Since you made sure all and anything under both devices in device manager was checked to wake up PC.
Said it is a fresh install, did you try sleep right after this install or after other software was put on ?Was there ever a system restore point before that ? Read something saying was an issue at times with Windows 8 also try turning off hibernation and turning back on again, do not know what this has to do with it.

It seems to me that the whole wake aspect of the system is faulty. It may not have loaded correctly upon install.

Try running scannow at least three times: www.eightforums.com/showthread.php?t=3047
(Code to copy/paste into command prompt: sfc /scannow)

If scannow can't fix some files upon first run the store may be corrupt. Run DISM to fix Component Store corruption:
www.eightforums.com/showthread.php?t=26512

Then run scannow at least three times unless files are fixed upon first scan. Sometimes it takes more tries.

If that doesn't fix it, nothing short of a system reinstall will do.

What i don't understand is that there is an option in the BIOS to let the BIOS manage the wake-up-event... And even if i enable this option, my htpc is still not able to wake. If it is an OS problem, then why it isn't able to wake even when the BIOS is managing the wake ?

same for DISM... no error found

I take it that this is a very advanced BIOS. Is it UEFI?

Seems like the wake management option in the BIOS is broke or not the correct BIOS for the new MoBo. It seems you're an advanced user and no disrespect with this question, but are you sure it's the correct BIOS?

But this is already a fresh reinstall from 3 days ago

Sorry. Did not catch that it was a fresh reinstall.

In the wake of Ronhp's post, it may be a quirk with certain systems just as the sleep problem. Although sleep works on most systems, some have non-sleep issues. There are a lot of variables that no one seems to pinpoint an exact cause. Pages of posts where the solution has not been found for over a years time.
