can't wake from sleep using keyboard or WOL

  1. #41

Ok i noticed something strange with the new board.... it is able to wake the computer from sleep but not from advanced sleep state (not sure how it is called in english, maybe hibernation or S4/S5). And it only works when i let the BIOS handle the wake-up event in the settings. If i set the BIOS to let the OS handle the wake-up event, it will not wake up at all.

I noticed in the BIOS "wake-up event" section, the option is called "Resume from S3 by USB device"
Does that means that USB device can wake up the computer only when sleep is in S3 mode, so hibernation isn't supported ?
Why would I be able to wake the computer from hibernation using a PS2 keyboard but not an USB keyboard ?

There is sleep and there is hibernation. Two different states of "sleep" as a whole.

What does your manual say S3, S4, and S5 is?

It is strange that only S3 is listed "by USB device". Why not S4 and S5 also?

,so usb can only be use to wake in s3 because s4 is hibernate , and usb devices are not powered in hibernate mode

    Thanks again.

I see these modern BIOSs are quite sophisticated. Do these options also appear in OS Power Options as well?

I was able to wake my HTPC from hibernation using any usb devices with my previous BIOSTAR board... You just have to turn off the option in windows called "selective USB suspension" or something like that.

I asked the question to MSI, here's the answer i got:

I tried with 3 different keyboards and 2 mices. All of them were able to wake my HTPC with the old motherboard, but isn't working anymore with the new board.
    Also, wake-on-lan isn't working.

i am 100% sure this is not a problem with the devices used.

After trying 2 different MSI board having the same problem, i gave up with MSI and tried a Gigabyte board.

Wake from sleep worked out of the box with a Gigabyte board.

Conclusion: the problem came from the MSI board, it wasn't a deffective board it is just a problem with the board itself. MSI support is totally useless and they never came out with a way to fix the problem.
