    In the earlier, post, I was addressing two things. Fixing your index and moving the index to a different location with more space. Early adopters of SSD usually were on 128GB drivers. By default the Search Index is on the C: Drive. By using the Search Index function from the Control Panel, not only can you add/remove folders from indexing, but you can store the index on a different drive.

    Of course, you would want this on a permanent internal drive that is fairly fast. Otherwise you are defeating it's purpose.

    Since you seem to be stuck when you open a file browser, don't do it. After booting, go directly to the Control Panel and check your indexing. From your screen shot, nothing was indexed. However, it will take a while to rebuild depending on your drives and their sizes. I removed my 3TB Gaming Drive from indexing. I also have a 1TB backup drive that I don't index either.

    Forget the stuff I said about networking. Like I said, it doesn't really affect system that much anymore. Just years ago, especially in a corporate environment, there were a lot of mapping to this server and that server. It used to cause really bad slowdown while all the connections were checked.

    Again, try going right to the Control Panel and the Search Index. Blow away the old one and restart it. I also found it beneficial to reboot. The indexing SEEMED to start and run faster. Give it some time before you check your system again.

    That might be the culprit if your hard disk is containing bad sectors and might cause some system files to be corrupted, and it certainly will cause what you are experiencing. Be patient while chkdsk is trying to repair and register all the bad spots on it so windows will avoid using them. Like I said in the previous post, it will take a long time and sometimes can be stuck at certain percentage for hours, I have seen cases that it can stay at certain spot for few hours.

    @Oldgeekguy,

    I am sorry but turning off indexing options should not cause the file explorer to behave that way, myself, I have the indexing options & Windows Search service turned off completely since I don't use Windows Search.

    EDIT:
    Finally, I was able to access my desktop ~
    Does the long delay still happen ?
