Can't index a secondary internal hard drive

    Hi All

I'm new to the forums and hoping that you can help me. I've been searching for an answer to this for weeks now. I recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 (upgrade) and now I am unable to index anything not on my C drive. All of my media is on my secondary drive, which is my F drive. I have tried going into Indexing Options> Modify> Show All Locations, but nothing changes. All of my media libraries also show up as "Unresponsive" because of this. Any ideas of how I can get my F drive to be listed so that it can be indexed? Thanks so much in advance!

Hello Tyler, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Check using the tutorial below to see if you may be able to add the F: drive to the index.

Index Locations - Add or Remove - Windows 7 Help Forums

Afterwards, rebuild the index to force it to update to have search results include files on F.

    Thanks, Brink.

Those are exactly the same steps I enumerated in my first post. My issue is that the F drive doesn't even show up when I select "Show all locations." I've tried rebuilding the index, as well, but nothing happens.

What does the F: drive look like in Disk Management?

What's installed on your F: drive for it to be considered a system and active disk?

My F drive was, at one point, a system drive, but I can't find any services running on it, at all. Is this something that I could change in the setup menu, or would I need to format?

I just checked, and it looks like all of my system files are installed on my C: drive, but the PC is booting from my F: drive. How does that even happen?

It happened since you had the F: drive as Disk 0, and had unallocated space at the beginning of Disk 1 for the C: drive.

When you installed windows with F: connected, it made it the boot drive for the above reason.

If you like, see if the PC is able to boot to Windows without F: connected. If not, then run a startup repair to see if it may be able to repair the boot manager to boot from Disk 1.
