You may have to press the Fn key and that key for it to toggle.
Ok, so I just shut down fully, then turned back on (with external monitor plugged in). It booted on the laptop monitor until the user log-in splash came up which was now only on the external monitor.

If I then do Fn + F8 which looks to be the monitor switch, the external monitor goes off for a second but then comes back with the desktop as before, nothing shows on the laptop screen.

If I do Windows Button + P I get this pop up on the side:

Clicking the 2nd and 3rd options seems to do nothing. I just clicked 'Second Screen Only' and after the external monitor turned off for a minute, it came back on saying 'We couldn't find another screen to connect to'.

If you have system restore enabled I'd try restoring to a date before this happened. If that fixes it, do the windows updates one at a time, if you think that's what did it, until you find the update that's breaking it. Then uninstall that update.

Thanks - how do I uninstall individual updates? I might be able to go back and look at installed updates to find the one that did it, more easily than individually installing 181 updates that took forever the first time around :P

Go to control panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates. Click the one you want to uninstall so its high lighted, and then click "Uninstall" at the top of the list.

EDIT: I didn't realize it was 180 + I was thinking it was just the last batch from the last patch Tuesday.

Nope, I had to put up with it! I've since bought a new desktop PC and this laptop is unused in the cupboard. Sorry and good luck!

    Thank you for your reply.
    I will contact Medion tomorrow.
By the way I am running Windows 10 on the Medion computer now. The problem is the same as in Windows 8.1

    Hi,

I don’t know if still have your interest now you have put your Medion in the cupboard.
To fix the blank screen I upgraded the BIOS from version 202 to the newest version 301.

Now the logon screen appears as it should.
