Green "Please Wait" screen appears when booting

Whenever I restart my computer, after I log on and my desktop displays, I immediately get a green screen that says "Please Wait" and lasts for about 10 seconds.

It doesn't seem to affect my computer, but it is slightly annoying. Here is a screenshot of what is happening.

When did the problem start? Have you scanned for malware? What if you click Cancel?

If this only happens at boot, you need to look at what starts with Windows. Autoruns will tell you more than you need to know - but you might first try WinPatrol - free, but the Pro version is well worth it, IMO.

I have scanned for malware and have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro running in the background. I've never really had problems with malware or viruses on my computers.

I can't exactly remember when this started, as it has been going on for a while, but I would guess it was around the time I updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and also I had uninstalled Avast around that time.

I loaded up the Autoruns programs but there are so many things in there that I have no clue how I could pinpoint which one might cause the green screen.

It is a pretty technical tool. WinPatrol is much more intuitive.

Everything that shows up as a Startup Program either came pre-installed with the computer, or is something I installed and want. Do I have to disable everything and try them one by one to see what's causing the screen to pop up?

Just something to run to make sure system files are in order before getting too involved with other possibilities, run sfc /scannow.

Well, it won't hurt to run the system file checker, but since this only happens at startup, and the system runs fine after that, it does not seem to me to be a system file problem, but rather hardware or hardware driver, or some other start up program.

There's a good chance much of the pre-installed stuff you don't need. You don't have to do one at a time to start. You can quickly eliminate some by disabling a some, then see what happens. If same thing, pick a different group to try.

Can I just disable startup items through msconfig and the Task Manager, or do I have to do it by disabling the registry entries using something like autoruns?

You can use MSCONFIG but note MSCONFIG should not be used to make permanent changes - it is really a troubleshooting tool. But once again, WinPatrol would be easier.

Another advantage to WinPatrol is it will yell (bark, actually) at you when something is trying to add a new or remove an old startup item.
