I don't like the plain, so called "modern" theme as I feel it is just a dummied-down theme (requiring less bandwidth) used as a universal theme by Microsoft marketers trying to placate and entice PC users into buying a Windows phone or some other Microsoft small-screen hand-held device.

I have two very nice, high-resolution monitors on my PC, fully capable of displaying no less than 16.8 million colors. So why use a boring black and white picture of a window pain - err, pane?

I'm with Brink too. Windows 8 with the touch interface is actually easy to use if you give it a chance. Even with a mouse, I can navigate, split screens, switch to other programs so quickly. I missed the Start Menu at first, but now I don't give it much thought.

Of course, there is a time to use the Desktop, especially in programs not written for touch. But that's the beauty. You CAN have both.

If you don't have a touch screen, then you'll probably stick with the Desktop for the most part. Even though I don't use them, install a Start Menu emulator.

But be ready for Windows 10. The new menu is great, even in the first release.
