Hello, Im trying to dual boot Windows 8 and Windows XP. However, when I put my DVD installation disk of windows xp setup it starts normally... Great stuff so far. But after reading and installing the components when it says Starting Windows... 5 seconds pass and the laptop shuts down its self.. No restart to the setup automatically?!

Additional info
Pre-installed Windows 8 on SSD I split the SSD into two drives so one could boot from Windows 8 and other from Windows XP.
When I brought my laptop it came originally with HDD never tried to install XP on the HDD so unsure if its the SSD's fault but Windows 8 works like charm when I installed it on the SSD. Untitled.png

Most likely a hardware issue with the laptop, if it is shutting down. If you can get it to boot into Windows 8, you can use Core Temp, to see if it is overheating.

Is that drive/partition on the SSD for XP formatted as GPT or MBR? Also is BIOS set as Legacy or UEFI? All could be a factor.

EDIT: Also Secure Boot setting in BIOS could make a difference.

I think popey's suggestions are more on track to what is causing your issues, and ,its always been said that we install oldest OS first for best results , and I think that still holds true today .I have never tried to install xp and then win8 or vise versa .
also you might be better off install xp in a VM[virtual machine]
